The movement of water takes place from lower solute concentration to higher solute concentration i.e from inside cell to outside in the salt solution to attain equilibrium. It results in the shrinkage of cell.

Hey,
When a cell is kept in a hypertonic medium, cell shrinks..water moves from cell to medium(higher water potential to lower water potential) this phenomenon is called exosmosis.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU..
