When 1-nitroethene ( CH=CH-NO ) is reacted with hydrogen bromide ( HBr ) , the product formed is BrCH-CH-NO .
CH=CH-NO + HBr → BrCH-CH-NO
- This reaction does not follow Markovnikov addition .
- Due to the presence of the nitro group , the positive charge is developed on the second carbon . So , the Bromide anion goes for the second carbon and the hydrogen cation goes for the first carbon attached to the nitro group .
