When sodium acetate is heated with soda lime (NaOH+CaO), methane will be produced by decarboxylation. Sodium acetate and soda lime(NaOH + CaO), on reaction give methane and sodium carbonate. This reaction is called decarboxylation and is one of the general methods to prepare alkanes.Jun 4, 2019
