punch marked coins are a type of early coinage of India, dating to between about the 6th and 2nd centuries BCE. These coins were made of silver of a standard weight but with an irregular shape. They were also called Puranas, Karshapanas and Pana. They were copper punch marked coins too. These coins were issued first by the Magadha dynasty when it was still a janapada .
