When an organism makes gametes, each gamete received just one Gene copy (allele) which is randomly selected. This is called as the law of segregation. A punnet square is used to predict genotype (allele combinations) and phenotyes (observable traits) of offsprings from genetic crosses.
Basic Steps of punnet square:- are:-
1.determine genotype of parent organisms 2.write down you cross (mating) 3.draw a p-square 4.split the letters of Genotype for each parent and put them outside the p-square. 5.determine the possible genotypes of the offsprings by filling in the p-square. 6.summarize results (genotypes and phenotyes of offsprings) 7.bask in the glow of your accomplishment.
