Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a system of alternate schools for gifted students in India. They are run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Department of SchoolEducation and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India

In 1986, the concept of NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA SAMITI came into existence during the Prime Ministership of Late RAJIV GANDHI. He was great visionary. It was then decided to open a school or rural area’s meritorious students who are deprived of urban facilities. It was also decided to open one Navodaya Vidyalaya in each district, starting with two J.N.Vs today we have around six hundred JNVs , raising the flag of good quality modern education through learning by doing JNV provides education through playing method or you can say though nontraditional method. Admission in JNVs are made through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) for class VI. The medium of instructions in JNVs is the mother tongue or regional language up to class VIII and English thereafter for Maths & Science and Hindi for social science. Students of the JNVs appear for X& XII Class Examinations of the CBSE.

OBJECTIVES OF SCHEME:

•To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children predominantly from rural areas.

•To ensure the students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages.

•To promote national integration through migration of students from Hindi to non-Hindi speaking State and vice –versa To serve in each district as focal point for improvement of quality of school education in general through sharing of experience and facilities
