what is the purpose of having an Electromagnet in an electric bell

● This is because the electromagnet attracts a soft iron strip towards it when electricity is passed by switching it on. A hammer is attached to the soft iron strip. This hammer then hits the gong.

When an electric current flows through the coils, the electromagnet creates a magnetic field which pulls the armature towards it, causing the hammer to strike the bell.
