What is the purpose of sipping coffee from a saucer instead of sipping from a glass or cup?

1. it has wide area so it is sipped faster.
2.because of cooling time taken by both.in saucer it cools faster because it is wider than a cup.

we people mostly sip coffee from a saucer instead of glass or cup because cup of small circumference cannot reduce the hotness of tea or coffee in short time but saucer has big circumference which reduces its hotness i think this is the reason
