We are now using conventional sources of energy (although we have switched to renewable sources in recent years. Conventional sources of energy include coal, petroleum, hydal and thermal energy etc. While conventional sources of energy is really useful, it's stock is fast depleting. In fact there is only enough coal resources to last us around 150 years at current rates of production. So, there is an urgent need to adopt and develop alternative sources of energy.
Moreover, conventional sources of energy can cause air pollution by releasing oxides of carbon, nitrogen and sulphur and other poisonous gases which harm living beings (causing pulmonary diseases in humans) and buildings (change in colour of white marble of Taj Mahal). So, it's necessary to switch to efficient and less polluting sources like wind energy and solar energy.
