Ratio of linear expansion coefficient and superficial expansion coefficient for any solid:

  • When was certain solid is heated up that solid mass is length or area or volume might change with the heat absorption, it expanses due to heat is of three types superficial, longitudinal and Cubical.
  • The ratio of the three types of expansion that takes place is given as follows considering
  1. Longitudinal expansion as Alpha,
  2. Superficial expansion as beta and
  3. Cubical expansion as Gama

then the expression that shows the relation goes as:-

                         \alpha=\frac{\beta}{2}=\frac{\gamma}{3}
