Nitrogen Oxides and Hydrocarbons
Nitrogen oxides (NO, and to a lesser extent NO2) are released during any high-temperature combustion which breaks the strongly bonded atmospheric N2 and combines atomic N with oxygen: power plants are their largest stationary sources, vehicles and airplanes the most ubiquitous mobile emitters.
