Answer:

redox reaction is the reaction called when oxidation & reduction takes place

Because both reduction and oxidation are occurring simultaneously, this is known as a redox reaction. An oxidizing agent is substance which oxidizes something else. In the above example, the iron(III) oxide is the oxidizing agent.

\bf{\underline{Answer:-}}

The reaction in which both oxidation and reduction takes place simultaneously is known as redox reaction.

For example:-

\sf{ZnO + C \longrightarrow Zn + CO}

This is a redox reaction because here Zinc is being reduced as it is loosing oxygen. Also Carbon is getting oxidized as it is gaining Oxygen.

\bf{\underline{Important\:Information:-}}

Oxidation Reaction:-

The reaction in which a substance gains oxygen or looses hydrogen is known as oxidation reaction.

\sf{Eg:- 2Cu + O_2 \longrightarrow 2CuO}

Here Cu is gaining oxygen.

Reduction Reaction:-

The reaction in which a substance looses Oxygen or gains hydrogen is known as reduction reaction.

\sf{Eg:- ZnO + H_2 \longrightarrow Zn + H_2O}

Here Zinc is getting reduced because it is loosing oxygen.

\bf{\underline{Some\:important\:terms\:in\:redox\:reaction:-}}

  • Oxidising agent:- The substance which looses Oxygen or gains an electron or hydrogen is known as oxidising agent.
  • Reducing agent:- The substance which gains oxygen or looses an electron or hydrogen is known as reducing agent.
