What is the reason for absence of dissolved oxygen in sewage water?

Water with high concentrations of dissolved minerals such as salt will have a lower dissolved oxygen concentration than fresh water at the same temperature. Low dissolved oxygen primarily results from excessive algae growth caused by phosphorus. Nitrogen is another nutrient that can contribute to algae growth.
