The reason for not increasing the cultivated area since 1970 is as follows -

• The India is the second most populated country in the world and with respect with this enormous amount of population, the total land area of our country is not enough. And that's why the land crisis is becoming a main problem for human habitation which doesn't allow the increase of the cultivation land.

• Apart from the agricultural sectors, the industrial sectors are also becoming mainstream industries of our country. And these industries are also occupying land which is becoming another reason for the non-increasing area of the cultivated land.
