Answer:

• During the Civil Disobedience Movement (1930) , Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, a devout disciple of Gandhi, was arrested in April 1930.Angry crowds on this event, demonstrated on streets of Peshawar, facing armoured cars and police firing. Many were killed.

• A month later this, Mahatma Gandhi himself was arrested. Then industrial workers in Sholapur attacked police posts, municipal buildings, law courts and railway stations - all structures that symbolised British rule.

• The frightened government responded with Brutal repression. Peaceful Satyagrahis were attacked, women and children were beaten and about 1,00,000 people were arrested.

• In such a situation, Mahatma Gandhi called off the Civil Disobedience Movement and entered into a pact with Irwin on 5 march 1931.
