There are mainly 2 reason of the difference in climate of North and South India

1)Moderating influence of water body - South India is has Indian Ocean surrounded to it hence gets its moderating effect and experiences maritime climate. While north India is landlocked and doesn't have any influence of huge waterbody hence it experiences extreme type of climate

2)Latitude
South India has equator passing through it hence the sun rays are vertical
North India is higher in latitude and gets slants rays of sun
