After Beowulf becomes the ruler of the Geats, one day a thief enters and disturbs a barrow where a dragon was lying guard to a treasure. This infuriates the dragon and it starts to spit fire on the people of Geats. Beowulf goes to fight this dragon. Though he kills the dragon, the dragon bites him during their fight, the venom from which proves to be fatal, killing him. This is how the hero meets with a tragic end.
