Gender based discrimination against female children is pervasive across the world. It is seen in all the strata of society and manifests in various forms. As per the literature, female child has been treated inferior to male child and this is deeply engraved in the mind of the female child. Some argue that due to this inferior treatment the females fail to understand their rights. This is more predominant in India as well as other lesser developed countries. Sex selection of the child before birth and neglect of the female child after birth, in childhood and, during the teenage years has outnumbered males to females in India and also in countries like Bangladesh and South Korea. There are 1029 women per 1000 men in North America and 1076 women per 1000 men in Europe, but there are only 927 women per 1000 men in India. These numbers tell us quite a harsh story about neglect and mistreatment of the female child in India. Women have a biological advantage over men for longevity and survival, yet there are more men than women. The figures above support that gender discrimination of female child is a basic facility area. Though the demographic characteristics do not show much or in some cases, anti-female bias, there is always a woman who receives a small piece of the pie.

Answer:

There are many reasons for gender discrimination between girls and boys but these three are the main reasons:

  1. First of all, is the mindset of people
  2. Lack of education about gender equality.
  3. No knowledge about one's rights.

Explanation:

  • The mindset of people that thinks that one gender is inferior and think of themselves as superior just based on physical strength is the root cause of gender inequality.
  • Women are abused physically, verbally and mentally. The mindset of women that they are born to be treated that way and not raising their voice against the wrong is also a reason.
  • Stereotypical norms such as men will go out to earn bread and butter and women will cook food. The man of the house gets to decide how the women will live their life, what will she wear and whom will they talk to.
  • This discriminating and stereotypical thought that man has the responsibility to earn, men cannot cry, and men do not feel pain, also affect men's mental health.
  • In many areas there is no education about one's body and health thus women are seen as child-making machines, their bodies are objectified therefore there should be proper knowledge of body parts and reproductive health.
  • Women bear all the discrimination without fighting against it thinking that they deserve to be treated in a certain way because they are women, this is because they know nothing about their right to equality, right to education, and freedom of speech.
  • These are the main reasons for gender discrimination.
