What is the reason that the moon looks dimmer before eclipse and why do it take again sometime to be brighter after eclipse?

It is because in an eclipse sun, moon and earth comes in a straight path. Moon doesn't has its own light so it reflects the sunlight .In an eclipse the moon comes in between of earth and sun so it does not allow sunlight to pass through it,so thats the reason why it looks so.
