For most material the polarization is proportional to electric field. Electrical Susceptibility is denoted by X_e which is dimensionless. DIELECTRIC CONSTANT: When dielectric material is introduced between the plates of a parallel plate capacitor, the capacitance of the capacitor increases.

The Dielectric Constant is responsible for indicating the extent to which a particular substance can conduct electricity through it. Electric susceptibility is responsible for indicating the extent to which a given substance gets polarised when it is kept in an electric field.
