The Gandhi surname came from Feroze Gandhi, who changed the spelling of his surname after joining the independence movement to bring it in line with that of Mahatma Gandhi. Indira Priyadarshini Nehru (the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru) married Feroze Gandhi in 1942 and adopted his surname
