The nuclear radius R is related to the mass number A as follows: R=Ro A1/3,where Ro =constant=(1.2 to 1.7) x 10 -15Thus nuclear radius varies as A1/3.

While the atomic no increases the electrons in the atom increases and no of shells increases so the size of the atom increases.

Relationship between mass number and nuclear radii:

• The mass number and nuclear radii are related in such a way that “nuclear radii are proportional to the cube root of its mass number”.

• The size of the nucleus is directly proportional to mass number. If the mass number increases the no. of electrons also increases. In that cases the outer most shell's size upsurges and the size of the nucleus also increases.
