Speed= Distance/time
Whereas Velocity= Displacement/time
Suppose I'm running 4km North in 3 hours and then 3 km East in 2 hours.
So total time=2+3=5 hours
So here distance=4+3=7km
So speed =7/5 km/h
Displacement= √(4²+3²)= 5km
So Displacement= 5/5= 1km/h
Also velocity is a vector quantity and speed is a scalar quantity.
