The relationship among refraction index, real and apparent depth is very easy to understand simple consider an example, when light ray passes from one medium to some other medium it gets refracted, the degree by which is refracts is called the refractive index.
Now according to this refraction we will get a ray which has diverted from the actual path , this is called the apparent depth and the depth actually it should show is the real depth
