Fructose is a ketohexose (C-2 is a ketone). Ketohexoses have three asymmetric carbons, so there are 2 (8) different optical isomers (four different names, D- and L-enantiomers of each). It has different connectivity from aldohexoses, so it is a constitutional isomer of glucose and galactose
