There is a significant relationship between group number and valance electrons of atoms.

Explanation:  

It is known to everyone that vertical column in a periodic table is called group and horizontal lines are called periods. The elements present in each group have same number of electrons in their valance shell, which is the reason of putting them in the same group. That’s why group and valance electrons have relation with each other.
