Volatility is directly proportional to the vapour pressure of a solvent. At a given temperature a substance with higher vapour pressure vapourizes more readily than a substance with low vapour pressure.
In general we can conclude that substances with higher vapour pressure are more volatile that is to say that they evaporate readily than those with low vapour pressure. and these substances with low vapour pressure are referred to as non-volatile.
