What is the relationship between morality and freedom?

Morality and freedom are intimately related and are certainly not in conflict.Freedom, properly understood, is the freedom to live by the judgement of your own mind. That means being free from other people initiating physical force against you (the only way they can curtail such freedom), and implies the rights to life, liberty, property and the pursuit of your own happiness.

.Such freedoms are automatically yours were you alone on a desert island. Such freedoms are the bedrock every person properly should insist on for dealing with anybody else.

There is no right to initiate physical force against another. So nor is there “freedom” to do so. But similarly, you are free to act immorally in any way not involving such use of force.

So freedom neither insists upon nor ensures morality. But it enables it, and a moral person both needs and thrives under freedom.

Answer:

Explanation:

Morality:

  • The set of principles that allow people to live peacefully in communities is referred to as morality.
  • It is what society deems to be "acceptable" and "right."

Freedom :

  • When we talk about freedom, we mean a state of independence where we are not subject to any outside constraints.
  • Freedom can also be referred to as a mental state in which you are free to do whatever comes to mind.
  • Furthermore, you have a sense of inner freedom.

Relationship Between Morality and freedom:

  • We are free to choose our own actions and course of action. However, morality teaches us to distinguish between right and wrong behavior.
  • While freedom is the ability to make your own decisions and carry them out, morality is the concern with a person's values, conducts, and principles.
  • Sometimes, in order to live moral lives, people must put society ahead of their own self interests. Those who violate these moral principles may be viewed as immoral.
  • These two are very connected to one another because we need to value them in our lives.
