The various types of mechanical energy possessed by a body by the virtue of its position and velocity are as follows :

  • Kinetic Energy
  • Potential Energy

Now, kinetic energy is a type of mechanical energy possessed by a body by the virtue of its velocity and its expression is given as:

 \boxed{KE =  \dfrac{1}{2} m {v}^{2} }

Similarly, potential energy is also a type of mechanical energy which is possessed by a body by the virtue of its position with respect to the reference frame.

 \boxed{PE = mgh}

  • This PE is actually gravitational potential energy in which 'h' denotes the position with respect to the reference frame.

Hope It Helps.
