One of the major difference between the resistance and the resistivity of the material is that the resistance opposes the flow of free electrons whereas the resistivity is the property of the material which defines the resistance of the material having specific dimension. Resistance is the property of a conductor to resist the flow of charges through it .its SI unit is Ohm

Resistivity is the resistance of a conductor of unit metre length and unit square metre of area of cross section. Its SI unit is ohm metre.

rheostat is used to regulate current of a conductor without changing the voltage source.
