However, it is possible to paint with watercolor on canvas. I’ve done it. But you have to cover the canvas with gesso or some other gesso-type material first to make it smooth and not as porous. Otherwise, the watercolor will simply disappear into the fibers of the canvas. And it’s also a good idea to varnish it afterward to protect somewhat from fading - even though watercolor artists generally don’t like to varnish because it changes the colors a bit.
