1) In Sri Lanka, the Sinhala community owned majority and dominated other communities in the country.
2) They adopted majoritarian policies and acclaimed Sinhala as the official language.
3) As a result, Sri Lankan Tamils were completely ignored and hence they started their own parties to demand separate state for Tamils.
4) War broke out between both the communities as their demand was not fulfilled.
5) By 1980s, several political organisations were formed Independent Tamil State in northern and eastern parts of Sri Lanka.
