  • The person is to be informed the reason for his arrest.
  • The person must be informed that he/she has a right to consult a lawyer of his choice.
  • The person must be allowed to inform his/her relatives about his arrest.
  • The person must be produced before a magistrate within 24 hours of arrest.
  • The person must not be kept in custody beyond 24 hours unless the magistrate so allows.
  • The person can not be tortured and be denied basic human facilities if food,water and clothing.
  • The person cannot be forced to accept guilty.
  • A male or female under the age of 15 cannot be summoned to the police station for the purpose of questioning.
