The Indus River or Sindhū, as it is locally known, has its origin in the Tibetan Plateau near Lake Manasarovar. The river runs through the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir , into Gilgit-Baltistan and the Hindukush ranges, and then flows in a southerly direction along Pakistan and merges into the Arabian Sea .
