Extreme heat or pressure can change rocks into metamorphic rocks. Rocks that are exposed to the atmosphere can undergoweathering and erosion to break into smaller pieces (sediment) that can be affected by pressure or cementation to form sedimentary rocks. The rock cycle is a very slow cycle.
