Neon is an inert gas, so it maintains balanced air pressure inside and outside the glass case of the bulb, thus preventing the bursting of the glass case of the bulb which may lead to an accident!

It also prevents the quick disintegration of the tungsten filament because the bulb glows because the tungsten gets heated up at high temperatures. So it minimizes the rate of evaporation and the loss of filament quickly.
