By mechanical I'm assuming you mean a literal machine, a robot who isn't physically human. If so, I've got a few points - if you need any clarification on these just ask!

What is crucial in the education of kids is the human aspect of teachers. We put kids, for a majority of their time growing up, in school. School is where they are most likely to learn human interaction, what’s right from wrong, as well as values. And this is thanks to teachers. For instance, feelings like empathy, couldn’t be taught by robots. And replacing the authority figure for kids at the most important and influence-able time of their lives by a mechanical teacher is not the correct path.

Schools isn’t only about learning class content, there is a whole human social skills development happening as well that the teacher is essential for. You can’t make a robot teach love, friendships, respect, attentiveness etc., that a student needs in life to progress, while a human teacher would be able to.

When you interact with your human teachers ,they can share much more beyond the books for your well being. You have your own favourite teachers with whom you are even emotionally attached, doing wonders for your personality development and acting as a mentor figure.

Also,a machine can never understand feelings, the mental pressure students may have at certain times. The machines may not observe a child like the way a human can to fulfill the requirements of a better student and a human being.
