Alveoli is the surface in the lungs where respiration takes place. The alveoli has moist surface, are one cell thick and are richly supplied by blood capillaries. The oxygen entering the nostrils goes to lungs and finally to alveoli where the oxygen diffuses into the blood stream and the excess carbon dioxide produced after respiration diffuses out of blood stream to come out of the nostrils during exhalation.
