What is the role of blood platelets in clotting of the blood?
Answers
Blood Clots: Plugging the Breaks. When an injury causes a blood vessel wall to break, platelets are activated. They change shape from round to spiny, stick to the broken vessel wall and each other, and begin to plug the break. They also interact with other blood proteins to form fibrin.✔
Platelets are blood components that play a role in the process of blood clotting (hemostasis). Platelets do not have a cell nucleus and are fragments of megakaryocytes. In the event of injury or vascular injury, platelets in the blood that comes out will break when touching the wound surface and release the enzyme thrombokinase. Thrombokinase will then change the prothrombin to active thrombin. This thrombin then converts fibrinogen into fibrin threads which will become clots that clog the wound and prevent the entry of germs or foreign objects into the wound.
