about religion role in forming societies probably nothing much people formed societies because they gave them better survival prospects and society's grew big a system of governance was established as an organised collection of, common ethics gave birth to religion

Here is my understanding  :

Religion=principles+practices or it can also be defined as a way of life .

About religion's role in forming societies , probably nothing much . People formed societies because they gave them better survival prospects and as societies grew big,a system of governance was established and an organized collection of common ethics gave birth to religion .

Ancient belief and role :

The concept of the unknowable/ultimate force /energy that made the universe possible is personified as deities so for a scientist this would be gravity or something similar .

A religion is built on the principles they preach , the practices make them different and unique and it is sad thing that people value the practices more than the principles that there have been wars in the name of religion when they
