what is the role of chromosomes in cell division

AviSinghss: Chromosomes in eukaryotes perform a useful function during mitosis, the process in which cells replicate their genetic material and then divide into two new cells. When the cell divides, the sister chromatids from each duplicated chromosome separate.

In eukaryotes, a centromere is a region of DNA that is responsible for the movement of the replicated chromosomes into the two daughter cells during mitosis and meiosis. There is one centromere on each chromosome, and centromeres are responsible for two major functions.

Chromosomes contain a cell's DNA. When a cell divides, the chromosomes must replicate. There are two types of cell division. Chromosomes undergo a different process depending on the type of cell division. It is important that chromosomes replicate properly so that each resulting cell has the correct amount of DNA after division
