The Role of citizens in a democracy are:-
1. Democracy means government of the people and answerable to the people. A good democratic government is possible only if people are aware of their rights and duties.
2. Our country follows the system of representative democracy. People elect their representatives to run the government. Elections for both Central and State Legislatures are normally held every five years. In case the government falls earlier, election may be held early.
3. In our country, we have universal adult franchise which means all citizens above the age of eighteen years have the Right to vote.
4. As voters people should not be misled in the name of caste, religion or regional loyalties. They should elect only those candidates who are genuinely committed towards working for the country’s welfare.

Citizens in a democracy also have responsibilities. One of these responsibilities is to choose our leaders. Another is to keep informed about what is going on with our government. It is also the responsibility of citizens to help make their community and neighborhood good places in which to live.
