what is the role of cryolite in the metallurgy of aluminium

alluminium has too much higher melting point...and if we mix up a little amount of cryolite with alluminium...then its melting point will decrease...and we have to burn a lower amount of fuel or energy

The role of cryolite in metallurgy of aluminium is to lower the fusion temperature of electrolytic bath upto 1000°C.
