In case of the froth floatation process, the depressants help to separate 2 sulphide ores by the selective prevention process of the froth formation by 1 ore and allowing another to enter into froth.

Example, to separate the two sulphide ores PbS and ZnS, NaCN can be used as the depressant.

Hey !!

In froth floatation process, the role of the depressant is to prevent certain types of particles from forming the froath with the air bubbles. Example :- NaCN is used as a depressant to separate lead sulphide ore one (PbS) from zinc sulphide ore (ZnS). NaCN forms a zinc complex Na₂[Zn(CN)₄] on the surface of ZnS thereby preventing it from the formation of froth.

Hope it helps you !!
