Desorption is a phenomenon where a substance is released from or through the surface.,It is opposite of sorption process..Catalyst can be any chemical entity which helps in increasing the rate of reaction ,but they do not itself take part in reaction i.e they just support the chemical reaction to occur effectively.

Hey dear,
● Desorption -
- Desorption is the process in which atomic or molecular species leave the surface of a solid and escape into the surroundings.
- It is the reverse of sorption (i.e. absorption or adsorption).
● Role of desorption in catalysis -
- In catalysis, reactants adsorb on the surface of catalyst and gets converted into products by specified mechanism.
- These unreacted reactant and product formed are removed from catalyst surface for subsequent adsorption.
- Therefore, desorption helps to make catalyst ready for next adsorption.
Hope this helps you...
