Diaphragm is very much important in human respiratory system. It does not take part in gaseous exchange, but it helps in relaxing and shrinking of our respiratory system. It is like an open umbrella, which can be opened and closed. When diaphragm goes up and down, the respiratory system gets opportunity to relax and shrink to perform gaseous exchange. So, diaphragm is a must for our respiratory system.
