Manure prepared by introducing earthworms in the heap of organic matter is called Vermicompost

Earthworms feed on organic wastes, utilise only about 5% of its content and discharge the rest along with the soil in the form of castings. These castings are rich in nutrients. Earthworms are separted and the compost is ready for use.

Commonly, the earthworms of the species of Dichogaster bolani and Drawida willisi are used for this purpose.
