Education is the only instrument that can bring about the desirable change in the contemporary society. Education is like a light house for us that gives our life a direction and dispels doubts and confusion that surround us. This is the very reason that the government, while making its policies and programs, given a priority to education. If we analyze the present scenario, we can identify the role of education in many spheres ranging from personal to societal, national to international, material to spiritual. Man is a component of society and unless man is well equipped to play his role in the society efficiently, the society has little hope. Education brings this hope for the society.
Education is the most powerful tool for personal growth of man. Education enables him to break through the shackles of orthodox beliefs, superstitions and come as an enlightened person who can reason out, who can see different aspects of the world around him in relation to cause and effect and who can rise above the prejudices that the past has imposed on us. Being educated he can conduct himself well in the society and become a deciding factor in the progress of his society. He can exercise his right judiciously in democracy to make it function effectively. Educated individuals, thus, are an asset to not only their families but to their country also as they are able to impact the economy positively. It's rightly said that education of women is of utmost importance because 'when we educate a woman, we educate the whole family. It becomes the responsibility of every father and every brother to see that their daughters, their sisters get every possible opportunity for education.
World today has shrunk into a global village and with the concept of global citizenship, education comes out as a prerequisite. An educated person is able to see beyond the barriers of boundaries with his wider outlook and open mindedness. He is able to understand the socio-cultural difference and work as a unifying agent to create a global village. Education enables one to appreciate others' philosophy, ideology and way of life and at the same time it provides him finer sensibilities to adopt ones that can beneficial to him and discard others. Education sensitizes individual on issues that stand in our way of understanding to promote international fraternity. Studying in foreign universities, exchange programs and research give students to opportunity to widen their horizon and contribute to their fraternity.
Lastly, we can't deny the importance of education in forming the moral fabric of an individual. A right kind of education propagates a right kind of behavior. Today, when man has become too vane with his success stories, when man has touched the zenith and after reaching there he has suddenly realized the chasm he has created between him and his creator, when many of his brothers and sisters have become too directionless and taken to violence, education regarding life skill and ethical values can bring the only hope for the humankind.
