Epiglottis is a flap like structure present at the junction of the trachea and oesophaguswhich closes when we stop breathing and opens when we breathe. It's function is to protect foreign particles entering trachea.
Diaphragm is a muscular structure whose contraction and relaxation causes breathing. So it's a very necessary thing for respiration.
