FCI  aims to attain food security for Indians. As the population increases there is an intensive pressure on land . But both the margins of the Indian statistics is against the path of achieving food security .On the one hand population rises and on the other hand production decreases. This situation has created a problem in the hands of BPL families to support their staple food need. Therefore FCI takes the responsibility of making food available to them at minimum prices. For this FCI makes arrangement with the farmers .Theses arrangement include granting of subsidy, making provisions of Minimum Support Prices , maintaining buffer stock ets. For distribution of stock it has arrangement with the Public Distribution System.

FCI stands for Food Corporation of India.

The FCI purchase grains from farmers of state of surplus production.

Farmers are paid a pre announced price for their crops.

This price is called MSP.

The MSP is declared by the government every year before the sowing season.

The purchased grains are stored in granaries.

The food procured by FCI is distributed to poor people through government ration shop.
